WHATSAPP VS BBM VS WECHAT:Which Instant Messaging Client Do You Prefer

WHATSAPP, BBM, WECHAT are the trending social media platform in Nigeria after Facebook, I am ignoring Twitter and Instagram this time, all the social media platform (except wechat) I listed above made my list of Popular Android Apps Used by Android Smartphone Users in Nigeria.
When you come to the social media atmosphere in Nigeria, WhatsApp, BBM and Instagram are not left out, Students especially makes use of these instant messengers to send and receive messages from their family and friend.
WhatsApp have been so faithful in enhancing the communication network Nigeria that was why I wrote a post on “How WhatsApp Will Take Over Nigeria Communication Network” . In the business sector in Nigeria, this instant messanger makes it easier for business enthusiast to communicate with their customers and business partners both in the country and Abroad, these instant messaging providers have integrated so many features such as voice calling, audio and video chatting, online notification, privacy settings and so many other features which you cannot find on the normal phone calling and default messaging from network providers, these features succeeded in changing the way business communications and transactions are made online.
Let’s take it one by one and highlight their feature, WhatsApp vs BBM vs WeChat underway!
   WHATSAPP
WhatsApp  according to Wikipedia is a cross-platform instant messaging client for smartphones  that uses your internet connection to send pictures, files and applications to the contacts on your contact list.
WhatsApp is a world-wide instant messaging client that has over 900 million users in its database, which means WhatsApp is very popular and growing closely to Facebook the leader.
FEATURES OF WHATSAPP
>> WhatsApp is cross platform i.e  it supports many mobile phones irrespective of the phone manufacturer, it even supports some S40 java phones which even makes it more unique.
>> Adding contact using phone number – WhatsApp is so unique from the rest in such a way it requires only the phone number of the person you want to chat and it doesn’t require the acceptance of the receiver, it is not like 2GO that before you can chat with a person, you have to gain his/her acceptance.
   >> WhatsApp consumes less bandwidth to enable communication, we all know WhatsApp does not consume the 10MB you receive when you recharge your MTN line with N100 when you are on MTN iPulse plan very fast, some people can use 10mb for chatting on WhatsApp for good one week which you cannot try with other instant messaging client.
    >> Free of Charge for Lifetime – WhatsApp wasn’t a free a service not until recently when  Jan Koum announced in an interview that WhatsApp is now free for lifetime for everyone.
    >> Placing Internet Calls – WhatsApp have now been integrated with internet calling feature to allow you call any of your contacts who is active on whatsApp or having whatsApp installed on his/her phone, the internet call requires internet from you as the caller and the receiver on the other end by using your internet subscription data as the transmission tariff.
   >> Web Version – apart from installing the application on your mobile phone, you can still use the web version which supports every browser expect from the outdated Internet Explorer (internet explorer is packing up *LOL*)
  >> Other Features ;
  • You can use emoticons (emojis) when chatting with someone)
  • Audio Chatting (Good with faster internet connection)
  • Send files and media like; applications ,pictures , audios, videos and others
  • Change your profile picture at any time and update status with custom notes or default update status
  • Create broadcast list to communicate with your friends
  • Privacy options to block a friend, hide your online presence and other tricks
BBM
BBM is an acronym of Blackberry Messenger, BBM is an instant messaging client that was made primarily for blackberry devices (proprietary app) that allows Blackberry  users to send message, audio to other blackberry users making use of BB Pin which is the mixture of numbers and letters, as time went on BBM became a cross-platform instant messaging client that now works on all mobile platform such as Android, Blackberry, iOS iPhones, Windows phone Etc
FEATURES OF BBM
CHEAP & CUSTOM SUBSCRIPTION – using BBM service in Nigeria is very cheap in the sense that all the network providers in Nigeria provides a custom plan for Blackberry device (BIS plan) including BBM which makes BB users enjoy internet at cheaper rates, even though the smart guys are tweaking it to be able to use it on their android smartphones.
ADD NEW FRIENDS USING PIN – BBM makes use of identification pin which is mixed up with numbers and letters. To add a friend, all you have to do is to get the PIN of the person you want to add and chat with, go to add pin and add it, wait for the person to accept (seriously? Not like WhatsApp) then you start chatting (not my problem).
ADD NEW FRIENDS BY SCANNING BARCODES – I really like this smart feature because it reduces the stress of collecting pins from ay body you want to add, all you do is scan the barcode using your smartphone camera.
 OTHER BBM FEATURES
  • You can create channels to communicate and keep your fans or business partners updated
  • Push notification option on your mobile phone when you are sent a new message, every instant messaging apps comes with it as default
  • Create Group chats to communicate with your friends
WECHAT
WECHAT is an instant messaging client that allows for mobile texting, audio and video messaging and it is owned by a china based company.
WeChat is not that popular here in Nigeria including Snapchat, I can say they are both in the same category of “Alien to Africans”
FEATURES OF WECHAT
  • You can create public account for your business, you can send a message to people subscribing to your public account
  • You can create moments and get your followers to like them
  • You can send messages and multimedia with your friends
  • You can connect your WeChat account with your Facebook and Twitter account
  • You can access WeChat with your Browser, you should read more from the wechat website
  • You can use stickers on WeChat
  • It supports all smartphones such as Android, iPhone and windows smartphones
Instant messaging is the best way to get across your audience and keep you updated all along.
