- He accused the National Assembly of stopping the federal government from fixing infrastructure problems
The
minister of transportation Rotimi Amaechi said Nigerians have to wait
till the end of four years for the change promised by the All
Progressives Congress (APC).
He said the APC did not promise Nigerians that it would fix the country’s promises within a year, Daily Trust reports.
Speaking
on Monday, February 6, during a north central town hall meeting for
the people of Kogi, Niger and Kwara organized by the federal government
in Ilorin, Kwara state, the minister said: “We did not promise you
that those challenges will be solved in one year, if we promise you that
those challenges would be solved in one year you would have given us
one year but you gave us four years mandate so wait till the end of four
years.”
Amaechi noted that the federal government has
heard the cries of Nigerians that things were difficult but they would
have to wait till the end of the four years mandate given to the
administration before judging whether the government had performed or
not.
The minister accused the National
Assembly of holding the federal government back from fixing
infrastructure problems and creating jobs with their failure to approve
its borrowing plan.
The federal government has secured $7.5 billion loan for the construction of standard rail gauge from Lagos to Kano.
Amaechi said the loan which was secured from a
Chinese bank and waiting for approval of the National Assembly is part
of the $30 billion loan the federal government seeks to take.
He urged Nigerians to impress it on the National Assembly to approve the loan for work on the project to commence.
Others at the town hall meeting were the ministers
of information and culture, Lai Mohammed; budget and national planning,
Zainab Ahmed, water; Suleman Adamu; state for mining and steel,
Abubakar Bawa Bwari and trade and investment, Ayishat Abubakar.
Recall that Nigerians took to the streets today to protest against the federal government. The massive nationwide protest was held in Lagos and Abuja.
Following the protest, the acting President Yemi Osinbajo, said that President Muhammadu Buhari has heard the cries of Nigerians “loud and clear”.
