Two
Igbo groups have criticized the president general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo,
Chief John Nnia Nwodo over his reported visit to Atiku Abubakar.
Two
Igbo groups have accused the president general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo,
Chief John Nnia Nwodo, of jeopardizing Igbo presidency and the agitation
for Biafra following his reported visit to former vice president,
Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in Abuja.
The groups, the South-East Young Professionals
(SYP) and the Igbo Students Forum, (ISF) in separate statements on
Wednesday, February 8, called on Nwodo to step down as Ohanaeze
president for allegedly trading off Igbo presidency during the course of
his visit to Atiku, Daily Post reports.
The
groups described the visit which reportedly took place on Tuesday,
February 7, as petty, patronizing and against the overall interest of
Ndigbo.
The national coordinator of SYP,
Comrade Chinua Okoro said it was in shock that the new Ohanaeze
leadership led by Chief John Nnia Nwodo visited Atiku Abubakar.
"We are shocked and disappointed because it is
on record that ever since Nwodo was elected, he has not visited any
political or religious leader in Igbo land; neither has he paid any
visit to elders statesmen in this part of the country."
“It
is, therefore, most self-serving, most petty that his first point of
call, that his first official function is the fruitless visit to Atiku.
“More
worrisome is the news making the rounds that Atiku’s 2019 ambition
featured prominently when he hosted Nwodo. This is quite pathetic coming
at a time Igbo presidency is becoming realistic more than ever.
“Having
made the above observations, we call on his to resign forthwith as the
Ohanaeze president as he lacks what it takes to lead our people. We are
not ready to allow him commercialize Ohanaeze as he has done already," the group said.
Similarly, Comrade Kalu Umeh of the ISF accused Nwodo of playing politics with Ohanaeze.
The group also called on him to resign.
Meanwhile, the president of the Ijaw council and founder of the Niger Delta People’s Volunteer Front Asari Dokubo has announced that he is a Biafra, Igbere TV reports.
Dokubo
who spoke on a live London radio on Tuesday, February 7, it is wrong
for anyone to ask him whether he is Nigerian or Biafra.
The
Ijaw leader during an interaction with the host of the radio show and
deputy leader of Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Alphonsus
Okafor-Mefor said he will not tender any form of apology to anybody for
accepting he is ‘Biafran’.
